Located in a corner of rare natural beauty with tiny coves, green hills and deserted beaches, the aptly named Retreat offers an idyllic haven from hectic modern life.

Around a ten minute walk from the bustling harbour of Sivota, The Retreat clings to the side of a tree-covered coastal hillside. Its various buildings are linked by numerous steps and paths leading down to the shores of the Ionian Sea. A collection of beaches forms the edge of our watersports area and a shallow sand bar makes it possible to wade across to the tiny uninhabited island of Mourtemeno.

Throughout the hotel grounds great attention has been paid to landscaping with an abundance of flowers and trees adding to the natural beauty of the setting.

Sivota 20 June 2010 Our best holiday so far. Lovely resort, accommodation clean and functional plus daughter had a whole room/bathroom etc to herself so she was very pleased, food is excellent. We loved all the activities even when we were tired we couldnt resist taking out a dart or sea kayak. Trev loves being on the water but my first time trying watersports and I am now a huge fan, can't wait to have another go at windsurfing, sailing, waterskiing etc! Our 11 year old daughter loved the club and got to try loads of different activities with her new friends. yes as dave and monica say, the wind is sometimes non-existent during the day but it does blow up a bit late afternoon and i understand from Alex, Charlie etc that a flat sea is 'ideal conditions' for waterskiing! PS Monica (above) my arms are still aching from our double kayak adventure.

Sivota June 2010 Normally brochure pics are a little optimistic but in this case the resort was just as it looked on the web. As others have mentioned, the food is excellent and a good variety for any veggies out there. The activities we tried were all good with enthusiastic instruction, but if you already sail or windsurf, you will probably be disappointed as this area is well sheltered on top of the already local light winds. If you want to learn to sail then its a nice, enclosed bay and as you improve you might want to pick your sail/windsurf times for late in the day when it seems some thermals start to pick up and you can get moving. For the non-inclusive days we walked into Sivota (about 10-15 mins) and can recommend The Steak House which does many dishes other than steak.

With 2 year old twins this was our first proper holiday - we were terrified. So much so we only booked a week. We couldn't have been happier and in 2010 we are back for 2 weeks! The boys LOVED Sea Urchins and Amy and the other Nannies were wonderful. The restaurant was excellent and my partner is an ex chef and very fussy!! Our family room was great and all the staff were really helpful and friendly. True a lot of steps but you get used to managing them and even the overseas childcare manager Steph answered all my silly mum questions personally within hours and nothing was too much trouble. Just can't wait to get back! This time I WILL apply myself more to the activities - but relaxing for the first time in two years was wonderful.
