Discover Italy’s secret coast and get away from it all at Airone Beachclub, located in the sun-drenched region of Calabria (the arch of Italy's boot).
The beach, a short stroll (150m) through fragrant pine trees is lovely - a long expanse of golden sand, lapped by the crystal-clear turquoise waters of the Ionian Sea. Here, you'll be able to make the most of the watersports kit and large sailing area or find a quiet spot to watch the world go by.
The main building, the hub of the beachclub is built in the style of a grand old villa; pretty pastels contrast against vibrant blues of the sky and colourful gardens dotted with palm trees and pergolas. There’s heaps of space on the beach and on the water to make the most of our water sports kit, while back on dry land we have four new tennis courts and a fitness deck on the rooftop overlooking the sea.
At Airone Beachclub, the Neilson activity and childcare team will be there to look after you, whilst our Italian partners look after the hotel and hospitality.

Activities
Activities on the water
The large sandy beach has plenty of space for all water users, whether you’re sailing, windsurfing, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking or swimming. Gentle breezes that build throughout the day make the perfect environment to learn and progress your sailing and windsurfing skills. The sparkling, turquoise waters are great for kayaking and stand up paddle boarding with a long stretch of coastline to put your paddle skills to the test.
Airone has two separate pools, a large freeform pool that’s great for swimming with an area marked for lane swimming and a children’s splash pool. The children’s splash pool is situated away from the main pool close to the other kids’ club facilities.
Watersports equipment
Dinghy sailing: Laser Pico; Laser 1; Laser Bahia; Laser Dart 16; Topper Topaz Argo

Activities on the shore
Tennis fans will love the four brand new tennis courts with inclusive coaching for all abilities. There's also private coaching and competent players looking to fine-tune their game can book our popular premium tennis package (both are available for a little extra). We also have a multi-sports court for kids of all ages to play a variety of sports including basketball.
The road cycling is superb, get out and about to discover local towns and medieval villages hidden away in the surrounding rolling hillsides. If road cycling isn't for you, we also have a fleet of mountain bikes. You can ride independently with our route cards for guidance or join us on a guided ride
That's not all if you have the energy for more, head to the fitness deck where you’ll be able to enjoy a range of classes including Zumba, circuits, HIIT or Pilates.

Families and kids
Airone is great for children, with a long and sandy beach, shallow waters and a separate kids’ splash pool. The grounds are flat with bags of space to play and pushchair friendly for those of you with babies and toddlers. We also have a selection of Frog bikes for children from three to seven years. These bikes are available to use in and around the beachclub grounds, but cannot be taken outside of the beachclub.
There are family and inter-connecting rooms plus the usual Neilson crèche and kids’ clubs for children aged from 4 months to 17 years. Make sure your children don't miss out, pre-book before you go to secure a space in the club they want. If needed there’s also cots, baby baths, buggies and a 24-hour baby room.
Local area
Airone Beachclub is located on the Gulf of Taranto, between golden sandy beaches that stretch as far as the eye can see and rolling, rural countryside. There’s a sleepy vibe to the immediate surroundings, but there is a lot to explore nearby.
Sibari
Head to Sibari (10km away), here you will find archaeological sites galore due to its proximity to the ancient Greek colony towns of Sybaris and Thurli. The ancient inhabitants of Sybaris became infamous for their hedonism to such an extent that “sybarite’ has become a byword for opulent luxury and pleasure-seeking!
Rossano
A 30-minute drive away is the medieval town of Rossano, one of the most celebrated villages for art and architecture in this part of Calabria. Perched on a hillside, the old town is a warren of beautiful old streets, with many grand old houses, churches and an 11th-century Cathedral. Interestingly, Rossano is also well known for producing liquorice!
Matera
Located in the small region of Basilicata (one hour and 45 minutes from Airone Beachclub) is the spectacular city of Matera and its ancient neighbourhoods, known as sassi. Matera is one of the oldest continually inhabited settlements in the world, dating back to the Palaeolithic period. The sassi are a series of caves or grottoes carved out of the limestone rock and perched on the edge of a rugged ravine – it is one of the most unique places to be found anywhere in the world.
As recently as the 1950’s people lived (here in the caves) in severe poverty without electricity or running water. Fast forward 70 years or so and Matera and the sassi have been granted UNESCO World Heritage Site status. Most of the caves have been converted into stylish hotels, restaurants and bars, so you can now sleep in the caves, eat in the caves, enjoy a drink in the caves and shop for artisan crafts in the caves such is the transformation.
Despite its increasing popularity, Matera and the sassi have been carefully restored and there is still an air of discovery about the place. Matera is truly unique, with a spectacular setting and fascinating history – definitely one not to miss.
There's much more to this area than meets the eye, speak to our excursion provider for more details and find out all about the beautiful treks that will take you through the landscapes that this area of Calabria is known for.
Closer to home, ten minutes walk away, there are a couple of excellent beach bars serving great food in an even better setting - perfect for a relaxed evening.
